The Addams Family

They're Creepy and They're Kooky!     Welcome to another musical review! This week I'll be discussing The Addams Family Musical! This is a comedy musical based upon the classic characters created by Charles Addams in the 1930s.   It deals with the struggles of relationships between the various couples of the show, with lots of humor and hilarity.      This is the first review in awhile that's been about the OBC instead of a film version of the show! This cat has never actually read the actual comics or seen some of the older TV shows and films, so all of my Addams Family knowledge comes from this musical. Whether or not you're familiar with the original versions of the family, you'll enjoy the content of this musical. Let's get right into the review!  Krulwich, Sara The Addams Family History      The Addams Family opened in Chicago in 2009 before moving to Broadway a year later. The show closed in late 2011, aft...

The Greatest Showman

This Is Me!     Hey guys! I'm super excited to write about this week's musical: The Greatest Showman! This is an interesting show, because it's strictly a movie musical, with no physical stage adaptation (yet!). So of course, the review will be about the movie.      The Greatest Showman tells a story about the life of Phineas T. Barnum, known in history for establishing the concept of circuses and for his advertising methods. I will let you know now, that Disney has put their own twist on some of the events, and the real conditions of his circus weren't as magic as the movie makes them appear. However, many details of the story are real, and seeing it brought to life on the big screen is really cool. Without further ado, may I present: The Greatest Showman!    The Greatest Showman The Greatest Showman History      After eight years of production and one year of filming, The Greatest Showman was brought to the b...

Into the Woods

And Home Before Dark!     Hey, you crazy cats! Welcome back! I'm super excited for this week's review. We're doing Into the Woods! Imagine a story about Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and more. Sounds loaded, right? Now imagine a twist that connects all of those classic tales. Add a little bit of music and you get Into the Woods! I'll let you know now, the Overview is pretty lengthy today, since this is a loaded musical.     If you're used to the happier versions of fairytales, this show might catch you off-guard. These aren't the pretty stories you used to read before bed to your kittens, it's the Grimm brothers version with dark themes of death and destruction. Hopefully I haven't scared you away. I promise, it's a really interesting way to view classic fairytales! Cat's honor.      A film version of Into the Woods was released in 2014, and recently became available on Disney+, so I'll be ta...

The Music Man

We Got Trouble!      Hi! After a 3 month hiatus, I am pleased to announce that I will be posting to this blog again! That's right, your favorite cat critic is BACK. I'll be posting frequently, so make sure to check it out when I update!     This week I'll be giving my 2-cents on The Music Man! Broadway has a revival of The Music Man scheduled for when all of Broadway opens up again, starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. However, as it hasn't happened yet, I'll be reviewing the movie from 1962, starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. This is such a classic musical (hint: I recommend it!). Enjoy! The Music Man, 1962 The Music Man, 1962 History      The Music Man opened on Broadway in 1957, and had great success. It ran for over 1,300 performances! A US National Tour followed the Broadway production. A West End Production opened in 1961, which was also widely praised. A revival of The Music Man was brought to Broadway in 20...
