Guide!

Who am I?

Mom took these pictures of me blogging. I want you to know what
your writer looks like!

How does this work?

Here's a little guide for some things I may say where the meaning may not always be clear. Please refer back to this guide as necessary, and if you have questions, leave them in the comments and I will do my best to get back to you quickly!

  • OBC = Original Broadway Cast
  • Rating scales =  range from 1 to 5, 1 being "did not meet standards," 5 being "exceeded standards," and 3 being the basic standard.
  • Cat rating = based off of how many cats are in the play, the presence of cats in the play, the necessity of cats in the play, and if adding a cat to the play would have improved it
  • Best song/actor/set = all my personal opinion!
  • The history section will not be too long, as the purpose is to inform you of my personal thoughts of each performance.

A Very Potter Musical

Yer a Wizard, Harry!     Hello you crazy cats! Welcome back to another review. This week we're doing something a little different than regular. I'll be discussing A Very Potter Musical: The Fan Made Musical, a musical based on various plots from the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. This musical has never made a Broadway appearance. It was actually created by a group at the University of Michigan (more on that in the History section!).      I'm so so so so so excited for this review. If you're a fan of Harry Potter, you're sure to love this musical. If not, prepare yourself, because there's a lot going on in this show that might be a bit confusing. I encourage you to sit back, relax, and jump right in to this review with me! StarKid Productions A Very Potter Musical History     A Very Potter Musical was performed on April 9-11, 2009 at the University of Michigan. The book was written by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Bria...

Chicago

And All That Jazz!     Hi again! Welcome back to another review. This week I'll be covering the musical Chicago! This will be a review of the film version, not a stage performance.      I'm going to be honest, I'm going into this review with pretty much no prior knowledge. I know two songs and the vague idea of the show, but other than that, I'm diving in blind! I know on some of my posts it may seem a little biased for some shows that I already know and love, but for this show, you're getting my full, candid thoughts for certain. Without further ado, let's pounce right in! Movie poster Catherine Zeta-Jones, Chicago  Renée Zellweger, Chicago History     Chicago began as a play in 1962, written by Maurine Dallas Watkins, based off of two actual court cases. Watkins wrote the play as a class assignment! From there, Chicago evolved into a musical and debuted on Broadway in 1975. It made its first West End appearance in 1979. A Br...

Newsies

Strike! Strike! Strike!     Hello! This week I'll be talking about the musical Newsies. I'm really excited for this one. I remember Grace telling me she's seen the original movie, but hasn't yet seen the musical, so we sat down together and watched it. This review will be about the musical.      Newsies is inspired by the Newsboys Strike of 1899. Most of the characters are fictional but the event is definitely real. Leave a comment below if you've seen the musical or the movie! I'm curious for your own thoughts. Now, lets get right into the review! Watching Newsies! On Broadway History      Newsies debuted as a musical in 2011 at the Paper Mill Playhouse. It is based on a movie of the same name, produced in 1992. The storyline was inspired by the real Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The musical transferred to Broadway in early 2012, where it played until August in 2014. A US National tour was launched two months late...
